fischer secures Olympic constructions in Rio

The Brazilian subsidiary of fischer received orders to supply various fastening systems for several new buildings in the Olympic Park in the Barra district, in the south of the city, due to the high quality of fischer products and their on-site service. Most of the arenas consist of load-bearing precast concrete structures and steel frameworks, which place high demands on the fastening technology.

In the tennis arena with a capacity of 10,000 spectators, the metal roof structure had to be fastened to the concrete supports. For this purpose, anchor rods with fischer injection mortar were used. Just a few meters away, the three Carioca stadiums are currently being built. Here, basketball games, wrestling, judo, as well as fencing and taekwondo take place.

The three arenas each accommodate 6,500 spectators. All seats here were also anchored in the concrete substructure with anchors and injection mortar. Another architectural highlight of the Olympic Park is the Future Arena. In this Nordic-looking building, handball games take place. Here, the railings and the wave breakers, which are intended to prevent uncontrolled crowding of spectators towards the playing field, were fastened with steel anchor bolts in the concrete substructure.

The Olympic Games are always a worldwide media event for which a temporary media center is built. The "International Broadcast Center" (IBC) serves for the transmission of TV and radio broadcasts. The two buildings are also located in the Barra Olympic Park and were already handed over to the Olympic Committee at the end of last year as the first. The main building has twelve studios, each with around 5,000 square meters of space.

fischer Brazil took over the fastening and cladding of the extensive electrical systems and cable trays here. 306 competitions in 28 sports take place in the different Olympic buildings. A large part of these facilities was newly constructed. All sports venues are distributed across four zones within the city area of Rio de Janeiro: Maracanã, Barra, Deodoro, and Copacabana.

The opening and closing ceremonies are planned in the legendary Maracanã Stadium, and the athletics disciplines will be held in the Olympic Stadium "João Havelange". After supplying fastening systems for all stadiums of the last football World Cup in Brazil, the Brazilian authorities also relied on the know-how, quality, and safety of fischer fastening products for the Olympic buildings.
