According to information from the traffic provider Inrix, drivers in Moscow spent around 210 hours stuck in traffic jams last year. On average, traffic moved at only 18 km/h. The construction of the new metro tunnel, planned by the Lenmetrogiprotrans Institute and led by the construction company Mosinzhproekt (both Russian), is intended to help more commuters switch from road to rail. Against this background, Russia attaches great importance to the project, which started in April and whose first phase is expected to be completed by the end of 2019. Technological solutions are being used that are completely new for the Moscow metro.

This also includes the ventilation system. The tunnel ventilation for the removal of pollutants, smoke extraction in the event of fire, and fresh air supply meets the latest technical standards. The supply and exhaust ventilation systems are secured safely and permanently, yet quickly and economically, with fischer bolt anchors FAZ II. In this process, the Russian national company of the fischer group, in close cooperation with VIP Systems, one of its distribution partners, developed a solution and proposed it to Lenmetrogiprotrans, which optimizes the fastening design both technically and economically. In total, around 30,000 FAZ II 24/30 and approximately 18,000 FAZ II 12/10 – both versions in stainless steel (A4) – secure the ventilation system.

“Initially, it was planned to secure the systems to the tunnel tubes with four anchors per unit, each with a diameter of 24 millimeters,” reports Andrey Egorov, Managing Director of fischer Russia. “In this regard, we offered a significantly more economical fastening solution while maintaining high safety,” emphasizes the expert and explains: “With our fischer FAZ II 24/30 A4, the number of fastening points could be reduced from four to two while simultaneously ensuring the required load-bearing capacity.” This avoided errors in fastening the ventilation and exhaust systems in the highly dense reinforced concrete of the railway tunnel, as well as reduced material costs and labour time.

Two FAZ II 24/30 A4 bolt anchors each secure the main units of the ventilation system to the tunnel tubes. Additionally, two FAZ II 12/10 A4 anchors secure secondary supporting structures. Overall, the bolt anchor is a preferred solution for fastening devices such as fans in tunnels. With its proven expansion clip, it safely transfers loads into the concrete and allows for very high load-bearing capacity. The FAZ II 24/30 and 12/10 in A4 have an ETA (European Technical Assessment) and an ICC approval, ensuring they meet European and international standards, are made of stainless steel, and have proven resistance to fire and seismic influences. "In addition to the optimal fastening solution, we also convinced our client with our service offerings, with which we support the metro construction through all project phases from planning and calculation to training and on-site support at the construction site up to completion," emphasizes Andrey Egorov.
