Reaching new heights with smart facade technology
Kaohsiung is the second largest city in Taiwan, with a population of around 1.5 million. The metropolis has gained a new attraction with the new skyscraper "Farglory - THE ONE". The 68-storey building rises 268 meters high. It is the tallest residential building in Taiwan and the sixth tallest in Asia. On a construction area of 4,656 square meters, the skyscraper makes new ground vertically. "Farglory - THE ONE" offers around 166,200 square meters of space, including apartments, a private club, and an InterContinental Hotel with 253 rooms, three restaurants, and two banquet halls.

During the construction period from 2015 to 2018, the skyscraper was successfully completed, with the design originating from the architectural firm C.Y. Lee & Partners from Taiwan. The hotel will open for its guests in 2021. The skyscraper is named after the project-responsible architecture and construction company Farglory Group from Taiwan, a group consisting of several business sectors offering various services for modern society.

An important project component is the ventilated curtain wall facade (VHF). It was planned and executed by the VHF consulting company ORIGIN Design & Engineering Co., LTD. from Taiwan and the facade construction specialist Wan Shin Co. from Taiwan. The building envelope was clad with natural stone slabs made of Silver Star granite from India and G603 granite from China, each measuring 1700 x 803 x 30 millimeters. The company Tung Kung Engineering Co. from Taiwan supplied and manufactured the facade panels. Around 130,000 fischer FZP II Zykon plate anchors in the 13x24.5 M8/SO/15.5 AL version securely anchor the granite slabs to the substructure and the supporting structure, a steel construction with reinforced concrete. “To secure the contract, the professional consulting and customer support provided by our Taiwanese importer Fuhau Engineering Corporation Ltd. was decisive,” emphasizes Ralf Weber, Market Manager Facade Systems at the fischer Group. “Since 2001, we have been working closely with our partner in Taiwan, who specializes with its product and service offerings in key architectural topics such as high-quality facade and interior finishing.”

The project benefits from the advantages of the fischer facade systems. "Our undercut anchors achieve higher load values than alternative solutions, such as edge fastenings," says Ralf Weber. This is achieved by the FZP II Zykon plate anchors enabling a form-fitting and completely expansion-pressure-free fastening in the conically undercut drilled hole. "Further static advantages arise from the positioning of the undercut anchors at the fifth points of the facade panel," Weber continues. "This allows the FZP II to achieve lower panel bending moments and higher load capacities. In the execution of the skyscraper ‘Farglory - THE ONE’ and other projects, this also enables the fastening of thinner and large-format facade panels."

Further advantages lie in the cost-effectiveness. The fischer complete solutions for VHF accelerate the installation, shorten the construction time, and reduce project costs. In addition, there is a high-quality appearance of harmonious façades. Because of the rear plate anchoring, the fixing points are not visible even in the joint pattern.
