Safe all along the route

Secure hold for metro system in Riyadh - with fischer fastening solutions

Safe all along the route

Currently, 6.5 million people live in Riyadh, the capital of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. And the influx of new residents to the metropolis is high. To keep pace with urbanisation, a new metro system is being built from 2014 to 2021. This shifts traffic from the congested roads to the rails – for fast and environmentally friendly progress.

With six lines and 176 kilometres of track length, one of the largest metro systems in the world is being created. Together with integrated solutions, such as a multi-lane bus network and sufficient parking spaces, public transport will cover the largest part of the city. 85 new stations with a unique colour scheme for each line as well as extensive green spaces around stations and tracks give Riyadh a new face.

fischer fastening solutions are used for numerous applications, especially in interior construction. More than 900 different steel anchors, plastic plugs, chemical fastening systems, façade and installation systems as well as FireStop solutions have already been installed in the stations, tunnels and depots with a quantity of around seven million pieces. With these products, elements in interior construction, media lines and wall claddings can be securely, simply and quickly anchored in concrete and hollow block structures as well as fixed to steel constructions.

From the steel sector, among others, the fischer bolt anchors FAZ II and FBN II were installed. The economical and installation-friendly anchoring solutions meet high load requirements in concrete, even under extreme conditions such as seismic loads. Additionally, the impact anchor EA II was used. With its approval for multiple fastening of non-load-bearing systems, it is ideally suited, for example, for attaching media lines. For chemical fastening systems, the fischer injection mortar FIS EM Plus ensured the highest load capacity in concrete as well as in seismic applications. Furthermore, the fischer Highbond system FHB II was employed. The torque-controlled composite expansion anchor achieves the highest load values in concrete. With the versatile fischer injection mortar FIS V, the attachments could also be permanently and securely anchored in hollow block masonry. Thanks to its wide range of system approvals, the composite anchor enables high load capacity in all building materials, such as concrete, as well as solid and hollow masonry. From the plastic sector, among others, the fischer long-shaft dowels SXR were used. With their long shaft, the facade substructure could be fixed directly in the anchoring base. They consist of special screws and high-performance nylon sleeves, which have different expansion elements and behave suitably for solid and hollow building materials.

Also installed were fischer facade systems, such as the Zykon plate anchors FZP II for completely form-fitting and entirely expansion-pressure-free fastening of the wall claddings in the conically undercut drilled hole. Additional components of the complete system, such as the undercut drilling machines BSN, were also used. The Zykon plate anchors FZP II achieve lower plate bending moments and higher load capacities than edge fastenings. This allowed the thin natural stone slabs used, with a thickness of two centimetres and low density, to be securely and firmly anchored without becoming visible from the outside. Meanwhile, the fischer installation systems enabled reliable, economical, and simple fastening of all supply and disposal lines. The fischer universal rail system FUS was suitable for heavy loads. The required components could be modularly assembled depending on the situation and scope of the line. Products from the fischer FireStop range for passive fire protection additionally help to protect human lives and infrastructure in the event of a fire outbreak.

With products and services that cover project-specific requirements and approvals, the fischer corporate group will continue to accompany the project as a strong partner until successful completion. For example, some of the stations have been completed, while others are still under construction. fischer maintains close contact with the various partners and project-involved companies at all times to provide suitable products and services.
