fischer FZP II Zykon plate anchors secure house of worship in Taipei, Taiwan

Radiant face for new church
In Taiwan, a variety of cultures and religions come together, such as Daoism, Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, and Judaism – often even within a single family. The free practice of faith is enshrined in the constitution. For the minority of Christians among the Taiwanese, as well as for all residents and tourists, a new house of worship and congress centre is being built in Da Zhi, in the Zhongshan District of Taipei, covering more than 20,000 sqm (215,500 sf). The substantial completion of the project is well advanced and is scheduled for 2021. Even today, the building impresses with its modern architecture based on designs by HCW Architects & Associates from Taipei.

Around 42,000 fischer FZP II Zykon plate anchors in the 11 x 12 M6/18 Carbon version ensure the secure anchoring of the ventilated curtain wall facade (VHF), which is clad with white Dekton tiles from the Spanish manufacturer Cosentino. The construction of the modern building envelope was successfully carried out from 2018 to 2020. “Our fastening solution convinced the clients especially due to its high load capacities, its lasting safety, and its great user-friendliness,” emphasizes Ralf Weber, Market Manager Facade Systems at the fischer Group. “Decisive for our involvement in the project was also the professional advice and support of the customers by our Taiwanese importer Fuhau Engineering Corporation Ltd.”
Since 2001, the fastening specialist has been working closely with its partner in Taiwan. Fuhau Engineering Corporation Ltd. offers product and service solutions specifically for high-quality facade and interior construction as well as other architectural topics. "Together with the fischer group, we have already successfully completed numerous construction projects in Taiwan," says Andrew Chiang, Managing Director of Fuhau Engineering Corporation Ltd. "The brand stands for quality and reliability, which makes it easier for me to acquire projects locally. I also appreciate the company’s international orientation and the technical support in this partnership."
For the ventilated curtain wall (VHF) of the new church in Taipei, fischer FZP II anchors secure Dekton panels measuring 900 x 1550 x 20 mm together with the locally manufactured facade substructure to the supporting structure. This cladding material from the Spanish manufacturer Cosentino is produced using a high-tech process from glass, ceramic, and quartz and is highly resistant to UV rays, heat, frost, stains, scratches, as well as other weathering and wear. "Dekton can be installed with minimal joints," says Ralf Weber.
„Together with the invisible, rear-side fastening using our undercut anchors, a uniform, harmonious building appearance is created – a clear advantage over edge fastenings.“ In this process, the fischer FZP II anchors form-lock and completely without expansion pressure in the conically undercut drilled hole. Thanks to this technology, planners and facade builders can better utilize the respective technical material properties. This results in lower plate bending moments and higher load capacities. „For projects worldwide, the optimized static system and the higher breakout forces compared to edge fastenings enable the use of large-format panels with the same thickness,“ explains Ralf Weber. „Alternatively, with consistent formats, thinner and lighter panels can also be used. This is achieved with minimal installation effort, which shortens construction time and reduces project costs.“

As a result, the energy-efficient facade of the new church in Taipei combines contemporary thermal insulation, air conditioning, and a healthy indoor climate with a homogeneous, graceful building appearance, to which the fastening using undercut technology makes an important contribution. The professional anchoring ensures lasting safety and durability, reduces maintenance costs, and thus increases sustainability.
