Already, nearly 65 million passengers per year use the Copenhagen metro network, according to the owner and operator Metroselskabet I/S. And the influx of new residents to the Danish capital is high. Since 2011, the Cityringen has been under construction, which is scheduled to open at the end of 2019. The underground rapid transit system will connect the Danish Parliament, City Hall, significant national monuments, the main train station, and other central areas of the city. It also offers transfer options to the existing lines M1 and M2 as well as to the S-Bahn and regional trains. The Cityringen will serve 17 new metro stations on line M3.

As the construction company, the client Metroselskabet I/S commissioned the Copenhagen Metro Team, a joint venture of three Italian companies: Tecnimont Civil Construction, Salini S.p.a., and Seli. In 2014, Salini and Impregilo merged into a group, which now owns 99.9% of the shares of the Copenhagen Metro Team. The drilling work for the double-tube tunnel system has already been completed. Using EPB-TBM tunneling, two tubes each with a diameter of 5.78 m were drilled 15.5 km long, 25 m deep underground through Copenhagen limestone.
With over 300 subcontractors, the Cityringen is one of the largest metro construction projects in Europe. The fischer group of companies is also involved in the project, providing numerous product solutions for temporary and permanent fastenings and installations, and overseeing their assembly on site. The tunnel structure consists of concrete and reinforced concrete as well as precast segments as the supporting framework.
The fastening and installation systems used have been tested according to European and international standards. They mostly have the ETA (European Technical Approval) as well as UL and ICC approvals for the USA and Far Eastern countries. The fastening and installation systems are made from high-quality materials such as stainless and highly corrosion-resistant steel and are resistant to fire, seismic influences, as well as dynamic and impact loads. Temporary channels, cables, and pipes for ventilation, lighting, as well as water supply and drainage are secured in the Cityringen using the fischer nail anchor FNA II and the concrete screw FBS, tailored to the respective load requirements. Both products allow for disassembly. The FNA II was also used to secure the drainage pipe against buoyancy on the tunnel floor with the pre-drilled metal brackets. This prevents the drainage from shifting from its original position when the section is filled with cement. Other applications of the FNA II included fastening the fire protection boards and, together with washers and spacers, attaching the reinforcement meshes for the sprayed fire protection plaster.
The stainless steel version of the FBN II is used to press the sealing membranes of the tunnel segments watertight in the area of the wall penetration of the stations. For permanently secure electrical installation in the city rings, the fischer bolt anchors FAZ II and FBN II as well as the nail anchor FNA II are installed. A rail fastening system from fischer is used to attach rails to railway sleepers. To fix the conductor rails (third rail), the fischer epoxy resin mortar FIS EM is used together with the anchor rod FIS A, safely transferring the high loads into the anchoring base even with low drilling depth.

For fastening the facade cladding in the stations with natural stone and hand-formed bricks, undercut anchors and substructures from fischer ACT are used, which are suitable for claddings made of any materials. Loads are introduced form-fit and therefore completely free of expansion pressure with the systems. The corrosion-resistant and fire-tested fischer installation systems secure the pipes and cables for the supply and disposal of the tunnel with electricity and water as well as ventilation and exhaust. In addition, the entire fischer Firestop system is installed. The extensive range of solutions for passive fire protection helps to minimize the spread of fire, smoke, and toxic gases.
Under the direction of Metroselskabet, a total of 42 kilometers of tunnel are to be drilled under Copenhagen and 24 modern metro stations built. Together with a tram project in the periphery of Copenhagen, the opening of more than 50 metro and light rail stations is planned for the years 2019 - 2024.
